Tasman Syndicate

Friday 8th July 2016

This goes out to every Year 3 and 4 student as I wish you all a very relaxed, fun, memorable and a well-deserved 2 weeks holiday.

I cannot believe that Term 2 has already come and gone, most of which I missed due to the surgery on my knee. I am now the owner of a metal knee joint and take the title of 'bionic woman'. It was a most painful experience but it was certainly made a lot easier by the prayers you offered for me, so I thank you dearly from the bottom of my heart.

I do look forward to returning to the Computer Suite after the holiday break and carrying on from where we left off. I'm sure you have much to share with me since we were last together.

Take care, stay safe and enjoy the holidays.

God bless you all and may he watch over you at all times.

Lots of aroha

Mrs Graham :)

For the Middle Syndicate classes, Years 3 and 4, Term 1 was both busy and productive.

Time in the Computer Suite meant research about Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day (the day before Ash Wednesday) and using  Kiwikidsnews.co.nz where the students became informed on National and World News e.g. Cyclone Winston Devastates Fiji.

All classes were very excited about being newly registered users of Studyladder, where class teachers can set homework tasks, as well as students being able to use this programme in the suite to practise and reinforce the maths done in their classroom.

Topmarks.co remains a favourite programme which offers a variety of 'learning games' in both Maths categories and English activities covering Punctuation, Word development and Spelling, all geared to extend literacy knowledge.

The Year 4 classes only, have become newly registered on the Ministry of Education website, E Ako Maths which is directly aligned to our National Curriculum. Please ensure your children introduce you to this awesome learning programme which  allows them to move through ako at their own pace, with each ako becoming more difficult as the students progress along the pathways.

The use of BBC Dance Mat Typing to promote proficiency in keyboarding skills can also be practised at home to reinforce what has been worked on and achieved in the ICT suite.
